AN ACT concerning

Parole - Minimum Sentence

FOR the purpose of altering the minimum term to which a defendant
must be sentenced before the Parole Commission may request
the Division of Parole and Probation to conduct a parole
investigation.

BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,

Article 41 - Governor - Executive and Administrative

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:

122.

(a) It shall be the duty of the Commission of its own
initiative to request the Division to make such investigation as
may enable the Commission to determine the advisability of
granting parole to persons sentenced to a term of [90 days] 6
MONTHS or more under the laws of this State to the jurisdiction
of the Division of Correction, or to any other place of
confinement or detention of violators of the criminal laws of the
State whenever the prisoner shall have served in confinement one
fourth of the term or consecutive terms.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall
take effect July 1, 1984.
