This bill alters the number of individuals permitted in
certain apartments or sheltered housing for the elderly that is
certified by the Office on Aging.

House Bill 788, which was passed by the General Assembly and
signed by me on May 8, 1984, accomplishes the same purpose.
Therefore, it is not necessary for me to sign Senate Bill 699.

AN ACT concerning

Elderly Persons - Sheltered Housing

FOR the purpose of altering the number of individuals permitted
in certain sheltered housing for the elderly; clarifying a
defined term; and generally relating to the number of
individuals permitted in certain sheltered housing.

BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,

Article - Health - General
Section 19-301(1)
Annotated Code of Maryland
(1982 Volume and 1983 Supplement)

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:

Article - Health - General

19-301.

(1) (1) "Related institution" means an organized
institution, environment, or home that:

(i) Maintains conditions or facilities and
equipment to provide domiciliary, personal, or nursing care for 2
or more unrelated individuals who are dependent on the
administrator, operator, or proprietor for nursing care or the
subsistence of daily living in a safe, sanitary, and healthful
environment; and

(ii) Admits or retains the individuals for
overnight care.
