CHAPTER 682

(House Bill 1198)

AN ACT concerning

Consumer Goods - Extended Warranties

FOR the purpose of providing that any extended warranty sold by a
guarantor of manufacturer to a purchaser of consumer goods
may not supersede any original express warranty and shall be
offered in addition to the original express warranty;
providing that an agreement to purchase an extended warranty
is not valid unless it contains a certain statement in a
clear and conspicuous manner that an extended warranty shall
be offered in addition to any express warranty included as
part of a contract for sale of a new motor vehicle and
providing for notice of the duration of the warranty ;
defining certain terms; and generally relating to extended
warranties.

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:

Article - Commercial Law

14-1311.

(A) (1) IN THIS SECTION, THE FOLLOWING TERMS HAVE THE
MEANINGS INDICATED.

(2) "CONSUMER GOODS" MEANS ANY NEW, USED, OR

SECONDHAND GOODS USED FOR PERSONAL, FAMILY, OR HOUSEHOLD PURPOSES
WHERE:

(I) THE PURCHASER OF THE GOODS HAS ENTERED INTO
AN AGREEMENT TO PURCHASE AN EXTENDED WARRANTY ON THE GOODS
PURCHASED; AND
