AN ACT concerning

Law Enforcement Officers - Regulation of Secondary Employment

FOR the purpose of permitting a law enforcement agency to
regulate law enforcement officer's secondary employment for
certain purposes.

FOR the purpose of providing that a law enforcement agency may
not prohibit secondary employment of law enforcement
officers; and providing that a law enforcement agency may
promulgate certain regulations with regard to such
employment.

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:

Article 27 - Crimes and Punishments

729A.

A LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCY MAY NOT PROHIBIT SECONDARY
EMPLOYMENT BUT MAY PROMULGATE REASONABLE REGULATIONS AS TO A LAW
ENFORCEMENT OFFICER'S SECONDARY EMPLOYMENT AS NECESSARY TO
PROHIBIT A CONFLICT OF INTEREST IN THE PERFORMANCE OF THE
OFFICER'S OFFICIAL DUTIES.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall
take effect July 1, 1984.
