AN ACT concerning
Thistle Nuisance Weed Control
FOR the purpose of permitting the Secretary of Agriculture to
study the extent of growth and infestation of Johnson grass
and thistle in the State; permitting the Secretary to
institute programs of control and eradication in conjunction
with any county, adjoining State, or federal agency;
providing for an agreement between the Secretary and a
county for Johnson grass and thistle control; prohibiting
the importation or transportation of certain Johnson grass
and thistle in the State without written approval of the
Secretary; prohibiting certain contamination of uninfested
land with Johnson grass and thistle; making this Act and
emergency measure; and generally relating to Johnson grass
and thistle control.

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:

9-401.
(A) The existence of growth of a species of grass, sorghum
halepense, commonly known as Johnson grass is declared to be a
public and common nuisance.
