1696 LAWS OF MARYLAND Ch. 289
(A) All children who attend an elementary or secondary
school certified by the State Department of Education and who
reside on or along or near to a public highway of Washington
County on which [there] is [now or hereafter] operated a public
school bus or conveyance provided by the Board of Education of
Washington County for transporting children to and from public
schools of Washington County may be entitled to transportation on
the buses or conveyances.
(B) [; this] THIS transportation may be provided the
students by the Board of Education of Washington County, subject
to the conditions [hereinafter] set forth IN THIS SECTION AND
SECTION 31B, from a point on the public highway nearest or most
accessible to the students' respective homes to a point on the
public highway nearest or most accessible to their respective
schools.
(C) [; the transportation herein provided for]
TRANSPORTATION shall be supplied [upon] ON the same terms and
conditions as are [now or as may hereafter be] established by the
Board of Education of Washington County for children attending

8-31B. Same; financial provisions.
The County Commissioners [of Washington County are hereby
authorized to] MAY appropriate annually to the Board of Education
of Washington County from any funds received by Washington County
for any general county purpose [such] A sum [as may be] required
to enable the Board of Education to defray any costs incurred by
the Board of Education in carrying into effect the provisions of
Section 8-31A. (1971, ch. 592, sec. 8-31B)
Economic Development Commission
8-32. Created; purpose.
(A) [The] THERE IS AN Economic Development Commission of
Washington County.
(B) [is hereby created for the] THE purpose of THE
COMMISSION IS TO:
(1) [advancing] ADVANCE the general welfare of the
people through programs and activities to develop Washington
County's natural resources and economic opportunities pertaining
to commerce, agriculture, forestry, mineral extraction and
processing, transportation, travel, tourism and recreation[,
and];
(2) [to cooperate] COOPERATE and offer assistance to
existing industries and businesses], and];
(3) [to promote] PROMOTE and encourage the
establishing and locating of new industries and businesses in
Washington County; and
