8-11. Work by prisoners in jail.
(A) The County Commissioners [are authorized to] MAY
empower the Sheriff [of Washington County] to work, for any
purpose in addition to [the purposes] THOSE specified in [Section
799 of] Article 27, § 712 of the Annotated Code [of Maryland
(1939 Edition)], (See note (3)) prisoners who have been sentenced
to the Washington County Jail.
(B) Working prisoners shall be eliminated from the regular
food list of jail inmates, and shall be [provided with three] FED
substantial meals on the days they are working. [The] PAYMENT
FOR THE meals shall be [paid for] MADE by the County
Commissioners on vouchers submitted by the Sheriff.
(D) Prisoners [shall] MAY not be worked more than [eight] 8
hours in any [one] 1 day, and shall be paid in the discretion of
the County Commissioners at the rate of [fifty] 50 cents per day.
(E) [No prisoners shall] PRISONERS MAY NOT be worked
except in accordance with the provisions of this section.
(F) This section [shall apply] APPLIES to all work done by
Washington County prisoners ordered to work by the County
Commissioners, including work done under [Section 799 of] Article
27, § 712 of the Annotated Code [of Maryland (1939 Edition)].

8-12. Care of alcoholic inmates.
(A) The County Commissioners [of Washington County are
hereby authorized and empowered to] MAY:
(1) [spend] SPEND funds for facilities [of the nature
they deem feasible] for the care, custody, and rehabilitation of
alcoholic inmates. The County Commissioners [are further
authorized and empowered to];
(2) [appoint] APPOINT advisory and study groups to
devise plans for meeting the problem [as they deem necessary];
and
(3) [to cooperate] COOPERATE with any local, state,
or National Governmental or civic organization to achieve the end
result.
(B) (1) [Such groups] GROUPS APPOINTED UNDER SUBSECTION (A)
OF THIS SECTION are solely responsible to the County
Commissioners and may not receive any compensation other than
nominal travel allowance and permissible secretarial assistance.
(2) The County Commissioners or any groups appointed
by that body shall coordinate their activities and planning with
the Sheriff's office for Washington County. (See note (5))
