providing that the number of deputy State's attorneys and
assistant State's attorneys shall be provided in the budget
of Prince George's County; abolishing the position of
administrative assistant to the State's Attorney; providing
for the appointment of an executive secretary by the State's
Attorney; providing that salary of the executive secretary
shall be in accordance with the classification and salary
plans and budget of Prince George's County; and generally
relating to the Prince George's County State's Attorney's
Office.

FOR the purpose of increasing the salaries of the deputy State's
attorneys for Prince George's County, the assistant State's
attorneys for Prince George's County, and the administrative
assistant to the State's Attorney for Prince George's
County.

BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,

Article 10 - Attorneys at Law and Attorneys in Fact

Section 40(q)

Annotated Code of Maryland

(1981 Replacement Volume and 1983 Supplement)

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:

Article 10 - Attorneys at Law and Attorneys in Fact

40.

(q) In Prince George's County (1) the State's Attorney's
salary shall be $58,000 for the year 1983; $60,900 for 1984;
$63,945 for 1985; and $67,143 for 1986. The State's Attorney,
during his term of office, shall not, except in connection with
and in the performance of his duties as such State's Attorney,
appear as counsel or represent any party professionally before
any court, board, commission, or agency of this State or any
county or political subdivision of this State. It is intended by
the provisions herein that the State's Attorney shall not engage
in the private practice of law in any matter whatsoever.

(2)  The State's Attorney may appoint [2] BUSH
deputy State's attorneys [ , ] and [34] assistant State's
attorneys AS MAY BE PROVIDED FOR IN THE BUDGET OF THE COUNTY.
The deputy State's attorneys[,] and assistant State's
attorneys serve at the pleasure of the State's Attorney.

(3)  The annual salary of the deputy State's attorneys
AND ASSISTANT STATE'S ATTORNEYS shall be within the discretion of
the State's Attorney IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CLASSIFICATION AND
SALARY PLANS OF THE COUNTY [, but in no event exceeding $43,331
$47,231, to be paid by the county on the certification of the
State's Attorney to the county executive and County Council].
