Ch. 284

(A)  POSITION AND APPOINTMENT.

THE HEAD OF THE DEPARTMENT IS THE DIRECTOR, WHO SHALL BE
APPOINTED JOINTLY BY THE PRESIDENT AND THE SPEAKER.

(B)  TENURE.

THE DIRECTOR SERVES WITHOUT A FIXED TERM AND MAY BE REMOVED
BY THE LEGISLATIVE POLICY COMMITTEE ON THE RECOMMENDATION OF THE
PRESIDENT AND THE SPEAKER.

(C)  SALARY.

THE DIRECTOR IS ENTITLED TO THE SALARY PROVIDED IN THE STATE
BUDGET.

REVISOR'S NOTE: Subsections (a) and (b) of this section are
new language derived without substantive change from
former Art. 40, § 58(b), (c), and the first sentence
of (a).

Subsection (c) of this section is standard language
added for clarity.

2-1206. GENERAL AUTHORITY AND DUTIES OF DIRECTOR.

(A)  SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY.

SUBJECT TO THE POLICIES AND DIRECTIVES OF THE JOINT BUDGET
AND AUDIT COMMITTEE, THE DIRECTOR HAS GENERAL ADMINISTRATIVE
CONTROL OF THE OPERATION OF THE DEPARTMENT AND ITS UNITS.

(B)  NONPARTISAN CAPACITY AND CONDUCT.

THE DIRECTOR SHALL SERVE IN A NONPARTISAN CAPACITY AND
CONDUCT DEPARTMENTAL AFFAIRS IN A NONPARTISAN MANNER.

sentences of former Art. 40, § 58(a).

2-1207. EMPLOYMENT OF STAFF.

(A) IN GENERAL.

THE DEPARTMENT MAY EMPLOY A STAFF AND ENGAGE OTHER STAFF AND
CONSULTANT SERVICES IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE STATE BUDGET.
