In the introductory clause of subsection (a) of this
section, the words "of the General Assembly", which
formerly modified "standing committee", are deleted as
unnecessary in light of the use of the defined term
"standing committee".

In subsection (a)(5) of this section, the former
reference to a "rule of procedure" is deleted as
unnecessary in light of the broad reference to "law".
See the Maryland Uniform Foreign Depositions Act and
also Ch. 400 of the Md. Rules.

In subsection (b) of this section,   the phrase "may

pass an order ... and may enforce the order" is
substituted for the former directive that the court

"shall compel obedience", which was     misleading in

light of the prerogatives of       courts. This

substitution also clarifies that       the contempt

proceedings result from a failure to   comply with the
court order.

As to subsection (a)(4) of this section and oaths, see
Art. 1, § 9 of the Code, which authorizes an
affirmation to be made in place of an "oath".

As to subsection (c) of this section and perjury, see
Art. 27, §§ 435 through 439 of the Code.

2-1105. STUDIES BY GOVERNMENTAL UNITS.

WITHIN THE AMOUNTS MADE AVAILABLE BY APPROPRIATION, EACH
OFFICER AND UNIT OF THE STATE GOVERNMENT SHALL CONDUCT ANY STUDY
THAT A STANDING COMMITTEE REQUESTS.

REVISOR'S NOTE: This section is new language derived
without substantive change from former Art. 40, §
34(1), as it related to standing committees. See also
§ 2-410 of this title.
