FOR the purpose of establishing a Task Force on the Establishment of a Maryland
Women Veterans Memorial Monument; providing for the composition and
staffing of the Task Force; specifying the duties of the Task Force; providing
certain reimbursement for travel expenses; requiring the Task Force to report
its findings and recommendations on or before a certain date; providing for the
termination of this Act; and generally relating to a Task Force on the
Establishment of a Maryland Women Veterans Memorial Monument.
SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That:
(a) There is a Task Force on the Establishment of a Maryland Women
Veterans Memorial Monument.
(b) The Task Force consists of the following 9 members:
(1) one member of the Senate of Maryland who serves on the Maryland
General Assembly's Veteran's Caucus, appointed by the President of the Senate;
(2) one member of the House of Delegates who serves on the Maryland
General Assembly's Veteran's Caucus, appointed by the Speaker of the House;
(3) the Secretary of Veterans Affairs or the Secretary's designee; and
(4) the following members, appointed by the Governor:
(i) two representatives of the Maryland Veterans Commission; and
(ii) four representatives of women's veterans organizations.
(c) The members of the Task Force shall elect the chairman from among the
Task Force's members.
(d) The Department of Veterans Affairs shall provide staff for the Task Force.
(e) A member of the Task Force:
(1) may not receive compensation; but
(2) is entitled to reimbursement for expenses under the Standard State
Travel Regulations, as provided in the State budget.
(f) The Task Force shall identify and recommend the funding, design,
construction, and placement of an appropriate memorial or monument dedicated to
women from Maryland who lost their lives while serving served in the armed
uniformed forces of the United States of America.
(g) The Task Force shall report its findings and recommendations to the
Governor and, subject to § 2-1246 of the State Government Article, the General
Assembly on or before December 31, 2005.
SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 2005. It shall remain effective for a period of 6 months and, at the end of
