AN ACT concerning
Caroline County - Sheriff - Salary
FOR the purpose of altering the salary of the Sheriff of Caroline County; providing
that this Act does not apply to the salary or compensation of the incumbent
Sheriff of Caroline County; and generally relating to the salary of the Sheriff of
Caroline County.
BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,
Article - Courts and Judicial Proceedings
Section 2-309(g)
Annotated Code of Maryland

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:
Article - Courts and Judicial Proceedings
2-309.
(g) (1) The Sheriff of Caroline County shall receive an annual salary of
[$55,000] $65,000.
(2) (i) The sheriff may appoint:
1. Deputy sheriffs and other personnel in accordance with
the county budget; and
2. A chief deputy sheriff, or the managerial equivalent, who
shall serve at the pleasure of the sheriff.
(ii) The sheriff may not refuse to reappoint a deputy sheriff without
just cause.
SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That, pursuant to Article III, §
35 of the Maryland Constitution, this Act may not be construed to extend or apply to
the salary or compensation of the Sheriff of Caroline County in office on the effective
date of this Act, but the provisions of this Act concerning the salary or compensation
of the Sheriff of Caroline County shall take effect at the beginning of the next
following term of office.
