government and nonprofit organizations, to offer financial assistance under both
programs established under this Act to home buyers who seek to buy homes near
their place of employment.
SECTION 3. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED. That the Department of
Housing and Community Development shall report to the General Assembly on or
before December 31 each year, in accordance with § 2-1246 of the State Government
Article, on the implementation of this Act.
SECTION 3. 4. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall take
effect October 1, 2005.

AN ACT concerning
Workers' Compensation Insurance - Volunteer Fire and Rescue Companies
FOR the purpose of providing that a member of a certain volunteer fire and rescue
company is a covered employee shall be covered by a policy of workers'
compensation insurance while on duty; repealing certain provisions relating to
the statue of members of volunteer fire and rescue companion in individual
counties under the Maryland Workers' Compensation Act; providing for a
delayed effective date; and generally relating to workers' compensation benefits
insurance for members of volunteer fire and rescue companies.

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:

9-234.
(a) (1) In this section the following words have the meanings indicated.
(2) (i) "On duty" means:
1. fighting a fire;
2. performing a duty of a member of an advanced life support
unit or an ambulance, first aid, or rescue squad in a volunteer company;
