ROBERT L. EHRLICH, JR., Governor                             Ch. 296 Chapter 250 of the Acts of the General Assembly of 2002
Section 5 BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments, Chapter 423 of the Acts of the General Assembly of 2001, as amended by
Chapter 250 of the Acts of the General Assembly of 2002 Section 3 SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows: Chapter 275 of the Acts of 2000, as amended by Chapter 250 of the Acts of 2002 SECTION 5. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That Sections 2 and 4 of this
Act shall take effect October 1, 2000 [and, at the end of June 30, 2005, with no further
action required by the General Assembly, Sections 2 and 4 of this Act shall be
abrogated and of no further force and effect]. Chapter 423 of the Acts of 2001, as amended by Chapter 250 of the Acts of 2002 SECTION 3. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall take effect
October 1, 2001. [It shall remain effective until the taking effect of the termination
provision specified in Section 5 of Chapter 275 of the Acts of the General Assembly of
2000. If that termination provision takes effect, this Act shall be abrogated and of no
further force and effect. This Act may not be interpreted to have any effect on that
termination provision.] SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 2005. Approved May 10, 2005.

(Senate Bill 303) AN ACT concerning The Sara Hohne Patient Protection Act FOR the purpose of prohibiting hospitals and certain other health care facilities from
discharging certain patients to certain facilities or programs; providing a certain
exception
allowing a hospital to discharge a patient under certain conditions;
authorizing the Secretary of Health and Mental Hygiene to impose a civil money
penalty for certain violations under certain circumstances; providing for appeals
from the imposition of a civil money penalty; and generally relating to the
discharge of patients from health care facilities. - 1513 -
