(1) Given to the parent or guardian of the student with information
about:
(i) The condition of idiopathic scoliosis;
(ii) The significance of treating scoliosis at an early stage; and
(iii) Services available for treatment after diagnosis; and
(2) Sent to the county health department.
(d) The county health department shall:
(1) Ascertain if the services recommended based on the results of the
scoliosis screening have been obtained;
(2) Determine if additional services are needed; and
(3) Report the results of the scoliosis screening and the number of
students receiving the recommended services to the Department of Health and
Mental Hygiene.
(e) A student whose parent or guardian objects in writing to the screening
may not be required to be screened.
(f) A person who performs any screening required by this section shall have
the immunity from liability described under § 5-616 of the Courts and Judicial
Proceedings Article.]
7-416.
(a) (2) The range of services provided by the nurse practitioner, physician
assistant, or other appropriate health care provider with appropriate physician
collaboration should, to the extent feasible, include:
[(ii) Selected screening tests, including scoliosis screening;]
SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That Section(s) 2-206(l) and
(m) and 7-416(a)(2)(iii) through (vi), respectively, of Article - Education of the
Annotated Code of Maryland be renumbered to be Section(s) 2-206(k) and (1) and
7-416(a)(ii) through (v), respectively.
SECTION 3. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall take effect
October 1, 2006.
