Ch. 562 2006 LAWS OF MARYLAND
11 -135.
(a) [(1)] "Motor vehicle" means, except as provided in subsection (b) of this
section, a vehicle that:
[(i)] (1) Is self-propelled or propelled by electric power obtained
from overhead electrical wires; and
[(ii)](2) Is not operated on rails,
[(2)] (B) "Motor vehicle" includes [a]:
(1) A low-speed vehicle; AS DEFINED IN § 11-130.1 OF THIS SUBTITLE;
AND
(2) A MOTORIZED MINIBIKE, AS DEFINED IN § 11-134.4 OF THIS
SUBTITLE:
(b) "Motor vehicle" does not include:
(1) A moped, as defined in § 11-134.1 of this subtitle; or
(2) A motor scooter, as defined in § 11-134.4 of this subtitle.]
11-136.
(a) "Motorcycle" means a motor vehicle that:
(1) Has one front wheel and one or two rear wheels a on a single axle;
however, if it is equipped with two rear wheels on a single axle, the rear tread width
may not exceed 25 inches;
(2) Is self-propelled by a motor with a rating of more than 1.5 brake
horsepower and a capacity of at least 49 cubic centimeters piston displacement;
(3) Has a singular front steering road wheel mounted in a fork assembly
that posses through a frame steering bearing and to which is attached a handlebar or
other directly operated steering device;
(4) Has a seat that is straddled by the driver; and
(5) Except for a windshield or windscreen, does not have any enclosure
or provision for an enclosure for the driver or any passenger.
(b) A detachable sideear is an accessory to and not a part of a motorcycle.
11-176.
(a) (1) "Vehicle" means, except as provided in subsection (b) of this section,
any device in, on, or by which any individual or property is or might be transported or
towed on a highway.
(2) "Vehicle" includes a low-speed vehicle.
(b) "Vehicle" does not include an electric personal assistive mobility device as
defined in § 21-101(g-l) of this article.
