Ch. 434 2006 LAWS OF MARYLAND
(ii) If the recipient continues to teach in a public school in this State
in that academic field, invoke the provisions of § 18-701(d)(1) of this subtitle or
disqualify the recipient under the provisions of § 18-701(d)(2) of this subtitle.
(ii) (1) [Funds] EXCEPT AS PROVIDED IN PARAGRAPH (2) OF THIS
SUBSECTION, FUNDS for the SHARON CHRISTA MCAULIFFE MEMORIAL Teacher
Education Tuition Assistance Program shall be as provided in the annual budget of
the Commission by the Governor.
(2) THE GOVERNOR SHALL INCLUDE IN THE ANNUAL BUDGET
SUBMISSION FOR THE SHARON CHRISTA MCAULIFFE MEMORIAL TEACHER
EDUCATION TUITION ASSISTANCE PROGRAM AN AMOUNT EQUAL TO THE SUM OF
THE APPROPRIATION INCLUDED IN THE BUDGET SUBMISSION FOR FISCAL YEAR 2007
AND:
(I)     FOR FISCAL YEAR 2008    $1,000,000; (II)    FOR FISCAL YEAR 2009    $2,000,000; AND (III)   FOR FISCAL YEAR 2010    $3,000,000. 18-708. (A) (1) IN THIS SECTION THE FOLLOWING WORDS HAVE THE MEANINGS
INDICATED.
(2)      "ELIGIBLE INSTITUTION" MEANS AN ACCREDITED COLLEGE OR
UNIVERSITY THAT HAS A PROGRAM OF STUDIES THAT WOULD LEAD TO A RECIPIENT
RECEIVING A TEACHING CERTIFICATE ISSUED BY THE DEPARTMENT.
(3) "GRANT" MEANS AN ALTERNATIVE TEACHING OPPORTUNITY GRANT
AWARDED UNDER THIS SECTION.
(4)      "RECIPIENT" MEANS AN INDIVIDUAL WHO IS AWARDED A GRANT
UNDER THIS SECTION.
(5) "RESIDENT TEACHER CERTIFICATE PARTNERSHIP PROGRAM" MEANS
A PROGRAM ESTABLISHED BY AN ELIGIBLE INSTITUTION AND A COUNTY BOARD
THAT
; (I) LEADS TO A PARTICIPANT RECEIVING A RESIDENT TEACHER
CERTIFICATE ISSUED BY THE DEPARTMENT;
(II) INCLUDES TRAINING ON TEACHING TECHNIQUES AND
THEORIES, AND CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT; AND (III) INCLUDES PART TIME OR FULL-TIME TEACHING ASSIGNMENTS WITH DIRECT SUPERVISION AND MENTORING BY A QUALIFIED
TEACHER
(6) "SERVICE OBLIGATION" MEANS THE OBLIGATION OF A RECIPIENT TO
TEACH FULL-TIME IN THE STATE AS A TEACHER IN A MARYLAND PUBLIC
ELEMENTARY OR SECONDARY SCHOOL.
