Ch. 432                                    2006 LAWS OF MARYLAND
FOR the purpose of requiring certain residential treatment centers to notify certain
residents and certain representatives, family members, legal guardians, or
custodians of certain occurrences within a certain period of time: authorizing
certain individuals to send a notice to a residential treatment center declining
certain notification or specifying certain circumstances under which notification
is required
certain response to certain residential treatment centers waiving
certain notification or requiring notification only under certain circumstances;
requiring certain residential treatment centers to document certain
notifications and certain responses in certain medical records; requiring the
Department of Health and Mental Hygiene to require certain residential
treatment centers to notify certain residents and certain representatives, family
members, legal guardians, or custodians under certain circumstances; defining
a certain term certain terms; and generally relating to residential treatment
centers. BY repealing and reenacting, without amendments,

(2005 Replacement Volume and 2005 Supplement) BY adding to Article - Health - General Section 19-305 Annotated Code of Maryland (2005 Replacement Volume and 2005 Supplement) SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows: Article - Health - General 19-301. (p) "Residential treatment center" means a psychiatric institution that
provides campus—based intensive and extensive evaluation and treatment of children
and adolescents with severe and chronic emotional disturbances who require a
self-contained therapeutic, educational, and recreational program in a residential
setting. 19-305. (A) (1) IN THIS SECTION, THE FOLLOWING WORDS HAVE THE MEANINGS
INDICATED.
(2) "ADVERSE EVENT" MEANS AN UNEXPECTED OCCURRENCE THAT: (I) IS RELATED TO A RESIDENTS MEDICAL OR BEHAVIORAL
TREATMENT; AND
