(2) any money remaining in the fund shall be disbursed as required by §
2-512(c) of the Courts and Judicial Proceedings Article as it was in effect on June 30,
2006. SECTION 3. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That, notwithstanding Title 2,
Subtitle 6 of the Tax - General Article, if the Administrative Office of the Courts
certifies to the Comptroller that a county or Baltimore City is more than 90 days in
arrears in paying the amounts due under § 2-512(c) of the Courts and Judicial
Proceedings Article as it was in effect on June 30, 2006, or under Section 2 of this Act,
the Comptroller shall withhold from the county income tax otherwise due to he
distributed to the county or Baltimore City and shall pay to the Administrative Office
of the Courts the amount due. SECTION 3. 4. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall take
effect July 1, 2006. Approved May 2, 2006.
CHAPTER 367
(House Bill 988) AN ACT concerning Higher Education - Workforce Shortage Student Assistance Grants FOR the purpose of consolidating certain workforce shortage and economic
development student scholarship and grant programs in the Maryland Higher
Education Commission into the new Workforce Shortage Student Assistance
Grant program; providing for the purpose of the program; requiring the
Commission and the Office of Student Financial Assistance in the Commission
to administer the program; establishing eligibility criteria for grant awards and
award amounts under the program; authorizing grants to be used for certain
purposes; requiring the Commission during a certain time period to identify and
designate certain workforce shortage fields as eligible under the program;
requiring the Secretary of Higher Education to appoint an Advisory Council on
Workforce Shortage; providing for the membership of the Advisory Council;
requiring the Advisory Council to carry out certain duties; providing for certain
workforce shortage fields to be included in the grant program under certain
circumstances; requiring a certain service obligation as a condition of receiving
certain grants; authorizing the Office to defer a service obligation under certain
circumstances; requiring the Commission to confer with a certain council when
making certain grant awards; establishing the Workforce Shortage Student
Grant Fund in the Commission; directing the Commission to use certain gifts
and grants for the Fund in a certain manner; requiring the Commission to
prepare a certain annual report regarding the Fund; requiring the Commission
to adopt certain guidelines or regulations; prohibiting the Commission from
awarding certain scholarships and grants after a certain date; defining certain
terms; repealing certain workforce shortage and economic development student - 1922 -
