AN ACT concerning
Dorchester County - Orphans' Court - Compensation of Judges
FOR the purpose of altering the compensation for the judges of the Orphans' Court for
Dorchester County to be an amount determined by the County Commissioners
Council of Dorchester County, but not less than a certain minimum amount;
altering certain expense allowances for the judges of the Orphans' Court for
Dorchester County; providing that this Act does not apply to the salary or
compensation of the incumbent judges of the Orphans' Court for Dorchester
County; and generally relating to the compensation and expense allowances for
the judges of the Orphans' Court for Dorchester County.
BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:
Article - Estates and Trusts
2-108.
(k) Each of the judges of the Court for Dorchester County shall receive an
annual salary [in the amount of $3,500] AS DETERMINED BY THE COUNTY
COMMISSIONERS COUNCIL, BUT NOT LESS THAN $5,000 $4,700. Each judge shall also
receive an EXPENSE allowance [of $10 for expenses for every day's attendance upon
the sessions of the Court] AS DETERMINED BY THE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
COUNCIL, BUT NOT LESS THAN $800 ANNUALLY.
SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That, pursuant to Article III, §
35 of the Maryland Constitution, this Act may not be construed to extend or apply to
the salary or compensation of the judges of the Orphans' Court for Dorchester County
in office on the effective date of this Act, but the provisions of this Act concerning the
salary or compensation of the judges of the Orphans' Court for Dorchester County
shall take effect at the beginning of the next following term of office.
SECTION 3. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall take effect
October 1, 2006.
