AN ACT concerning
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
Commission on the Establishment of a Maryland Women in Military Service
Monument
FOR the purpose of establishing a Commission on the Establishment of a Maryland
Women in Military Service Monument; providing for the composition and
staffing of the Commission; specifying the duties of the Commission; providing
certain reimbursement for travel expenses; requiring the Commission to refer to
a certain report; requiring the Commission to submit a preliminary report on its
findings and recommendations on or before a certain date; requiring the
Commission to submit a final report on its findings and recommendations on or
before a certain date; providing for the termination of this Act; and generally
relating to a Commission on the Establishment of a Maryland Women in
Military Service Monument.
Preamble
WHEREAS, Many women of Maryland served in the uniformed forces of the
United States; and
WHEREAS, The creation of the Maryland Women in Military Service
Monument would recognize those women and ensure that their contributions,
dedication, valor, and sacrifice will be remembered and honored; and
WHEREAS, The people of Maryland want to recognize and pay special tribute
to the brave women from the State who have served in the military; and
WHEREAS, The people of Maryland want to establish a lasting tribute so that
future generations of citizens will note the courage and sacrifice of those Maryland
women who served our nation in uniform; now, therefore,
SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That:
(a) There is a Commission on the Establishment of a Maryland Women in
Military Service Monument.
(b) The Commission consists of the following members:
(1) one member of the Senate of Maryland who serves on the Maryland
General Assembly's Veteran's Caucus, appointed by the President of the Senate;
(2) one member of the House of Delegates who serves on the Maryland
General Assembly's Veteran's Caucus, appointed by the Speaker of the House;
(3) the Secretary of Veterans Affairs or the Secretary's designee;
