Annapolis, Maryland 21404
Dear Mr. President:
In accordance with Article II, Section 17 of the Maryland
Constitution, I have today vetoed Senate Bill 557.
This bill continues the existence of the State Board of
Dental Examiners, the State Board of Examiners of Nurses, the
State Board of Examiners of Nursing Home Administrators, the
State Board of Examiners in Optometry, the State Board of
Pharmacy, the State Board of Medical Examiners, the Commission on
Medical Discipline, the State Board of Examiners of
Psychologists, and the Health Services Cost Review Commission in
accordance with the Program Evaluation Act beyond July 1, 1989 to
July 1, 1993.
House Bill 1033, which was passed by the General Assembly
and signed by me on May 10, 1983, accomplishes the same purpose.
Therefore it is not necessary for me to sign Senate Bill 557.
Sincerely,
Harry Hughes
Governor
