CHAPTER 87
(Senate Bill 128)
AN ACT concerning
Public Assistance Jobs
Program - Workmen's Compensation
FOR the purpose of providing that participants in certain
programs be considered employees of the Department of Human
Resources while assigned to jobs; and providing that the
Secretary of Human Resources shall pay the workmen's
compensation premium for those individuals.
BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:
Article 88A - Social Services Administration
17A-2.
(g) (1) For the purpose of the State workmen's Compensation
Law, participants in "[this] THE FOLLOWING [program] PROGRAMS
shall be considered employees of the Department of Human
Resources while assigned to jobs [under this section.]:
(I) GENERAL PUBLIC ASSISTANCE TO EMPLOYABLES;
AND
(II) WORK EXPERIENCE PROGRAMS ADMINISTERED AS
PART OF THE DEPARTMENT'S EMPLOYMENT INITIATIVES PROJECT.
(2) The Secretary of Human Resources shall pay into
the State Accident Fund the premium established by the fund as
necessary to provide workmen's compensation for these
individuals.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall
take effect July 1, 1983.
