HARRY HUGHES, Governor                                               2425 relating to medical specialties that the Board may authorize
a physician to perform. BY adding to Article - Health Occupations Section 14-704 Annotated Code of Maryland (1981 Volume and 1982 Supplement) SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows: Article - Health Occupations 14-704. UNLESS A LICENSED PHYSICIAN HAS SUCCESSFULLY PASSED A
SCIENTIFICALLY VALIDATED EXAMINATION THAT TESTS PHYSICIANS FOR
COMPETENCY N A PARTICULAR SPECIALIZED FIELD OF MEDICINE, THE
LICENSED PHYSICIAN MAY NOT REPRESENT TO THE PUBLIC, BY TITLE, BY
DESCRIPTION OF SERVICES, METHODS, OR PROCEDURES, OR OTHERWISE,
THAT THE LICENSED PHYSICIAN IS AUTHORIZED TO PRACTICE THE
PARTICULAR SPECIALIZED FIELD OF MEDICINE. (A) A PHYSICIAN MAY NOT REPRESENT TO THE PUBLIC THAT THE
PHYSICIAN IS A SPECIALIST IN ANY FIELD OF SPECIALIZED MEDICAL
PRACTICE UNLESS IDENTIFIED AS A SPECIALIST IN THAT FIELD BY THE
BOARD. (B) IF A PHYSICIAN REQUESTS, THE BOARD SHALL DETERMINE
WHETHER THE PHYSICIAN QUALIFIES FOR BOARD IDENTIFICATION AS A
SPECIALIST. (C) (1) THE BOARD SHALL ADOPT RULES AND REGULATIONS CONCERNING APPLICATION PROCEDURES, FEES, AND REQUIRED
QUALIFICATIONS FOR IDENTIFICATION AS A SPECIALIST. (2) THE QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED OF APPLICANTS FOR
BOARD IDENTIFICATION AS A SPECIALIST MAY INCLUDE: (I) THE REQUIREMENTS ESTABLISHED BY VARIOUS
SPECIALTY CERTIFYING BOARDS OF THE AMERICAN MEDICAL ASSOCIATION; (II) EDUCATION; (III) PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE; AND (IV) WHETHER, BEFORE JULY 1, 1983, THE APPLICANT REPRESENTED TO THE PUBLIC, IN AN ETHICAL MANNER, THAT
THE APPLICANT WAS A SPECIALIST. (D) IN APPROVING ADDITIONAL SPECIALTIES, THE BOARD MAY
