Senate Bill No. 293
AN ACT concerning
Dorchester County - Palm Readers - Licensing
FOR the purpose of altering the licensing fee for persons
carrying on the business or practice of palmistry and
certain related businesses and practices in Dorchester
County; and establishing certain conditions for the issuance
of this license.
BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,
The Public Local Laws of Dorchester County

Article 10 - Public Local Laws of Maryland

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:
Article 10 - Dorchester County
15-1.
(a) It shall be unlawful for any person or persons to carry
on the business of or to practice the craft of palmistry, fortune
telling, spiritualism, clairvoyance and phrenology or the like,
within Dorchester County, State of Maryland, unless each and
every such person or persons shall first obtain from the clerk of
the Circuit Court for Dorchester County, Maryland, a license or
licenses to carry on such business or practice such craft in said
county, for which they shall pay to the clerk of said court the
sum of [one thousand dollars ($1,000.00)] $250 for each year or a
fraction thereof, for the use of the said Dorchester County and
they shall pay to the clerk of said court a further sum of fifty
cents (50¢) as his fee for issuing same[,]. THE CLERK SHALL
ISSUE THE LICENSE ONLY ON PROOF THAT THE APPLICANT HAS BEEN A
RESIDENT, TAXPAYER, AND PROPERTY OWNER OF DORCHESTER COUNTY FOR
AT LEAST 18 MONTHS PRIOR TO THE APPLICATION FOR THE LICENSE.
[such] THE license IS to be issued in the name of the person or
persons applying, and to be issued to run from the first day of
May of the year in which issued, to and including the 30th day of
April in the succeeding year; provided that no license shall be
issued to any person professing to be a "faith healer" or the
like; and provided further, that this prohibition is not deemed
to include Christian Science practitioners.
(b) Any person violating the provisions of this section
shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor and upon conviction
