HARRY HUGHES, Governor                                        2265 RESOLVED, That the Administrator of the General Services
Administration and the Secretary of the United States Department
of Agriculture are requested to halt the steady reduction, over
the last 12 years, of open space and natural buffer surrounding
the federal installations in the area of Beltsville and
Greenbelt, Maryland; and be it further RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution be sent to the
Honorable Ronald Reagan, President of the United States, 1600
Pennsylvania Avenue, Washington, D.C. 20500; Gerald P. Carmen,
Administrator, General Services Administration, 18th and F
Streets, N.W., Washington, D.C. 20405; the Honorable John R.
Block, Secretary, Department of Agriculture, 14th Street and
Independence Avenue, S.W., Washington, D.C. 20250; Bruce Selfon,
Acting Executive Director, Federal Property Review Board, Room
246, Old Executive Office Building, Office of Budget and
Management, Washington, D.C. 20503; and be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be sent to the
Maryland Congressional Delegation: Senators Charles McC. Mathias,
Jr. and Paul S. Sarbanes, Senate Office Building, Washington,
D.C. 20510; and Representatives Royden P. Dyson, Clarence D.
Long, Barbara A. Mikulski, Marjorie S. Holt, Steny H. Hoyer,
Beverly B. Byron, Parren J. Mitchell, and Michael D. Barnes,
House Office Building, Washington, D.C. 20515. Signed May 10, 1983. No. 8 (House Joint Resolution No. 44} A House Joint Resolution concerning The Beltsville Agricultural Research Center FOR the purpose of urging the federal government to prevent an
ill-advised public sale of a portion of the Beltsville
Agricultural Research Center (BARC). WHEREAS, The United States Department of Agriculture has
declared a 247-acre tract of land located at the Beltsville
Agricultural Research Center (BARC) to be "surplus" and available
for public sale pursuant to United States Executive Order 12348;
and WHEREAS, The property in question is a unique parcel of
land, remaining in its natural state as a heavily forested tract
dotted with ponds and wetlands; and WHEREAS, The property, in addition to its location within
BARC, is in close proximity to several other federal
