Medical and Chirurgical Faculty of the State of Maryland, the
Secretary of the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (or his
designee), one representative from each approved Family Practice
Residency Training Program in the State, 2 representatives from
the public at large, and other members as deemed appropriate;
and, be it further
RESOLVED, That the Governor designate the chairman of the
commission; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the commission be appointed by June 1, 1983
and provide its final report and recommendations to the Governor
and the General Assembly by November 1, 1983; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the staff for the commission be provided by
the Department of Legislative Reference; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution be forwarded to the
Honorable Harry Hughes, Governor of Maryland, the Honorable
Melvin Steinberg, President of the Senate of Maryland, the
Honorable Benjamin Cardin, Speaker of the House of Delegates the
Chairman of the Maryland Health Resources Planning Commission,
and the Secretary of the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene,
201 West Preston Street, Baltimore, Maryland 21201.

(Senate Joint Resolution No. 9)
A Senate Joint Resolution concerning
The Beltsville Agricultural Research Center
FOR the purpose of urging the federal government to prevent an
ill-advised public sale of a portion of the Beltsville
Agricultural Research Center (BARC).
WHEREAS, The United States Department of Agriculture has
declared a 247-acre tract of land located at the Beltsville
Agricultural Research Center (BARC) to be "surplus" and available
for public sale pursuant to United States Executive Order 12348;
and
WHEREAS, The property in question is a unique parcel of
land, remaining in its natural state as a heavily forested tract
dotted with ponds and wetlands; and
WHEREAS, The property, in addition to its location within
BARC, is in close proximity to several other federal
installations, namely the Patuxent Wildlife Refuge, the Treasury
