(House Bill 1462)
AN ACT concerning
Criminal Injuries Compensation Act
FOR the purpose of altering the definition of the word "crime" in
the Criminal Injuries Compensation Act in order to exclude
from that term acts involving the use of boats vessels under
certain circumstances; and making this Act an emergency
measure.
BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,
Article 26A - Criminal Injuries Compensation Act

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:
Article 26A - Criminal Injuries Compensation Act
2.
(c) "Crime" shall mean an act committed by any person in
the State of Maryland which would constitute a crime as defined
in Article 27 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1967 Replacement
Volume) or at common law, provided, however, that no act
involving the operation of a BOAT VESSEL OR motor vehicle which
results in injury shall constitute a crime for the purpose of
this article unless the injuries were intentionally inflicted
through the use of a BOAT VESSEL OR MOTOR vehicle.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act is
hereby declared to be an emergency measure and necessary for the
immediate preservation of the public health and safety and having
been passed by a yea and nay vote supported by three-fifths of
all the members elected to each of the two Houses of the General
Assembly, the same shall take effect from the date of its
passage.
