HARRY HUGHES, Governor
(I)   FOR A SELF-INSURED FIRE COMPANY OR RESCUE
COMPANY, LIABILITY SHALL EXTEND UP TO THE MINIMUM INSURANCE
LIMITS IMPOSED BY SECTION 17-103 OF THE TRANSPORTATION ARTICLE;
AND (II) FOR A FIRE COMPANY OR RESCUE COMPANY
INSURED BY AN INSURER AUTHORIZED TO ISSUE INSURANCE POLICIES IN
THIS STATE, LIABILITY FOR THE PAYMENT OF CLAIMS FOR BODILY INJURY
OR DEATH ARISING FROM AN ACCIDENT SHALL EXTEND UP TO $200,000 FOR
ANY ONE PERSON AND UP TO $400,000 FOR ANY 2 OR MORE PERSONS, IN
ADDITION TO INTEREST AND COSTS. SHALL EXTEND UP TO THE MAXIMUM
LIMIT OF ANY BASIC VEHICLE LIABILITY INSURANCE POLICY IT HAS IN
EFFECT, EXCLUSIVE OF EXCESS LIABILITY COVERAGE. (2) THE IMMUNITY GRANTED BY THIS SECTION IS NOT
WAIVED AND MAY BE RAISED AS A DEFENSE AS TO ANY AMOUNT OF DAMAGES
CLAIMED ABOVE THE LIMITS IN THIS SUBSECTION AND AS TO ANY OTHER
ACTION FOR DAMAGES NOT INVOLVING THE NEGLIGENT OPERATION OF A
MOTOR VEHICLE.
SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall
take effect July 1, 1983. Approved May 31, 1983.
CHAPTER 547 (Senate Bill 738) AN ACT concerning Transportation - Disposition of Property FOR the purpose of providing that a county or municipality shall
have the right to acquire certain land from the State
Highway Administration or the State Roads Commission for
transportation purposes under certain circumstances;
providing that if certain land is not needed by a county or
municipality for transportation purposes, certain other
persons have the right to acquire the land under certain
circumstances; providing for the disposition of certain land
if a county, municipality, or certain persons do not acquire
the land; and altering the payment that certain State or
local agencies are required to make to acquire certain land
from the State Highway Administration. BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments, Article - Transportation
Section 8-309(a), (b), and (f)
