limitations for certain vehicles; limiting the operation of
certain vehicles transporting certain loads to daylight
hours; specifying a formula to be used for determining the
maximum allowable gross weight on any group of 2 or more
axles; providing an exemption; increasing certain fees that
are charged for the issuance of certain permits; authorizing
the Secretary of Transportation to establish certain fees
under certain conditions; providing for the issuance of
certain special permits under certain conditions; and
generally relating to size and weight limitations for
certain vehicles and combinations of vehicles.

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:
Article - Transportation
11-172.
(A) "Truck tractor" means a motor vehicle that:
(1) Is designed and used primarily for towing other
vehicles; and
(2) Is not constructed to carry any load other than a
part of the weight of the vehicle and load being towed.
(B) "TRUCK TRACTOR" INCLUDES A TRUCK TRACTOR ENGAGED IN THE
TRANSPORTATION OF MOTOR VEHICLES ON THE TRUCK TRACTOR.
24-102.
(c) (1) A vehicle may not be driven on any highway if the
width of the vehicle exceeds the limits specified in this
subsection, unless:
(i) It has a permit issued by the State Highway
Administration under § 24-112 of this subtitle; or
(ii) As to a highway under the jurisdiction of
a local authority, it has special permission from the local
authority.
(2) For a motor vehicle loaded with tobacco hogsheads
or sod the width limit is 103 inches.
[(3) For a bus on any highway that is part of the
State primary system, the width limit is 102 inches.]
