SECTION 8. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That the General
Assembly shall continue to evaluate the cost effectiveness of the
driver education program in the State of Maryland and the
validity of continuing State support of this program. If no
action to the contrary is taken by the General Assembly by July
1, [1983] 1986, Sections 1 through 5 of this Act shall take
effect July 1, [1984] 1987. Article - Education 7-412. (a) (1) Each county board may offer instruction in the safe
operation of a motor vehicle to high school students who are 15
years old or older. 7-412.1. (a)  (1) The General Assembly shall continue to evaluate the
cost effectiveness of the driver education program in this State
and the validity of continuing State support of this program. (2) If no action to the contrary is taken by the
General Assembly by July 1, [1983] 1986, § 7-412 of this subtitle
is repealed and subsection (b) of this section is effective, both
to take effect July 1, [1984] 1987. (b)   Each county board may provide a program of driver
education to eligible students in accordance with the provisions
of Title 16, Subtitle 5 of the Transportation Article. Article - Transportation 16-508. (b) (1) From FOR FISCAL YEARS 1984 AND 1985, FROM its share
of the Transportation Trust Fund, the Department of
Transportation shall provide in its annual budget for those funds
that, together with the funds credited to the driver education
account in the Transportation Trust Fund, will be enough to reimburse an approved school for the cost of the program[, but not over $65 for each eligible individual completing the
course]. (2) (I) THE ACTUAL AMOUNT OF FUNDS TO BE REIMBURSED
SHALL BE COMMENSURATE WITH THE AVAILABLE FUNDS IN THE DRIVER
EDUCATION ACCOUNT OF THE TRANSPORTATION TRUST FUND. (2) (I) BEGINNING IN FISCAL YEAR 1986, THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION SHALL PROVIDE IN ITS ANNUAL BUDGET
FOR THE REIMBURSEMENT TO AN APPROVED SCHOOL FOR THE DRIVER
EDUCATION PROGRAM OF AN AMOUNT COMMENSURATE WITH THE FUNDS
AVAILABLE IN THE DRIVER EDUCATION ACCOUNT OF THE TRANSPORTATION
TRUST FUND.
