LAWS OF MARYLAND

Ch. 21

In this section and throughout this subtitle, the
term "kidney" is substituted for "renal" to
standardize the terminology in this subtitle.

In subsection (a)(3) of this section, the phrase
"{w}ithout the kidney disease program under
this subtitle, these people would die" is
substituted for "{p}resently, these patients
are dying" to reflect that, since the institution
of the kidney disease program, including State
payment of treatment costs, people of this State
are no longer dying from lack of treatment for
chronic kidney disease.

In subsection (b)(2) of this section, reference
to "treatment" programs is added to reflect §
13-307 of this subtitle, which requires the
Commission to set standards for facilities at
which treatment is given and for acceptance of
patients for treatment, in addition to
certification of patients for payment.

Also in subsection (b)(2) of this section, the
reference to "education" programs is substituted
for "information programs", to conform to §
13-306 of this subtitle, which requires the
Commission to institute and supervise education
programs.

The only other changes are in style.

13-303. COMMISSION ESTABLISHED.

THERE IS A STATE COMMISSION ON KIDNEY DISEASE.

REVISOR'S NOTE: This section is new language derived
without substantive change from former Article
43, § 782(a).

It is set forth as a separate section for
emphasis.

The word "State" is added to achieve uniformity
among the names of the entities that this article
governs.

13-304. MEMBERSHIP.

(A) COMPOSITION; APPOINTMENT OF MEMBERS.

(1) THE COMMISSION CONSISTS OF 12 MEMBERS
APPOINTED BY THE GOVERNOR.

(2) OF THE 12 COMMISSION MEMBERS:
