EXECUTIVE ORDERS
WHEREAS, In order to coordinate the improvement of workmen's
compensation laws, Executive Order 01.01.1981.02 was
promulgated on May 15, 1981 to establish the Governor's
Commission on Workmen's Compensation Laws; and
WHEREAS, It is considered advisable to expand the membership
of the Commission on Workmen's Compensation Laws to
allow additional representation;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, HARRY HUGHES, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF
MARYLAND, BY VIRTUE OF THE AUTHORITY VESTED IN ME BY
THE CONSTITUTION AND LAWS OF MARYLAND, HEREBY ISSUE THE
FOLLOWING EXECUTIVE ORDER AMENDING EXECUTIVE ORDER
01.01.1981.02 EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY:
1. The Governor's Commission to Review Laws
Governing the Workmen's Compensation Laws and the
Governor's Study Commission on Workmen's
Compensation Coverage are abolished.
2. The Governor's Commission on Workmen's
Compensation Laws is hereby created.
3. The Commission consists of [eleven] THIRTEEN
members appointed by the Governor, one of whom
shall be a member of the Senate, recommended by
the President of the Senate; and one of whom
shall be a member of the House of Delegates,
recommended by the Speaker of the House. [Nine]
ELEVEN of the members shall be persons whose
knowledge, training, and experience enables them
to evaluate workmen's compensation matters and
whose interest is in the implementation of
balanced and well developed workmen's
compensation laws. The Governor shall designate
a Chairperson from among the members.
4. The Commission shall conduct a thorough study
of laws governing or related to workmen's
compensation and, in doing so, may:
(a) Review all of the findings and
recommendations for legislative changes in
the State's workmen's compensation laws
that have been made by the Workmen's
Compensation Work Group of the House
Constitutional and Administrative Law
Committee, the Governor's Study Commission
on Workmen's Compensation Coverage, and the
Governor's Commission to Review Laws
Governing the Workmen's Compensation Laws
and determine the extent to which those
