HARRY HUGHES, Governor
5389
EXECUTIVE ORDER OF JUNE 8, 1981
01.01.1981.03
REVOCATION - GASOLINE CONSERVATION EXECUTIVE ORDER
WHEREAS, On June 19, 1979, pursuant to a state of emergency
previously declared to exist within the entire State of
Maryland by reason of an acute shortage in usable
energy resources, i.e., gasoline, I issued Executive
Order 01.01.1979.11 whereby, with the subsequent
approval of the Committee on Administrative, Executive
and Legislative Review, I imposed "odd-even" and
"minimum purchase" programs with respect to the
purchase of gasoline from retail suppliers in this
State and whereby I authorized and directed that a plan
be developed for the staggered, opening of retail
stations; and
WHEREAS, On September 27, 1979, because the increased
availability of gasoline in Maryland had reached a
point by which, although demand remained greater than
supply and thus required continued conservation, there
no longer existed a shortage sufficient to justify the
imposition of an "odd-even" program, I issued Executive
Order 01.01.1979.22 to amend Executive Order
01.01.1979.11 by repealing the provisions that imposed
an "odd-even" program; and
WHEREAS, The national stocks of gasoline recently surpassed,
the previous record high and I am advised that gasoline
supply remained plentiful throughout the State during
the past winter and spring and prospects are promising
for continued adequate supply;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, HARRY HUGHES, GOVERNOR OF MARYLAND, BY
VIRTUE OF THE AUTHORITY VESTED IN ME BY ARTICLE 41,
SECTION 15B OF THE ANNOTATED CODE OF MARYLAND, HEREBY
RESCIND, EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY, EXECUTIVE ORDER
01.01.1979.11 AND THE AMENDMENTS TO THAT EXECUTIVE
ORDER, AS PROVIDED UNDER EXECUTIVE ORDER 01.01.1979.22.
