otherwise in this section provided, each such petition shall
conform generally to the laws and requirements of this
article.

(2) The board of supervisors of elections shall
provide the means whereby all duly registered voters of
Washington County, irrespective of party affiliation, may
vote for said nominees for the county Board of Education at
the election held in November for other nominees of the
political parties. All voting shall be conducted on a
nonpartisan basis, and no designation of party affiliation
shall be placed upon any petition, for nomination, nor upon
any voting machine or paper ballot used at said election.]

32-8.

(A)  THIS SECTION APPLIES TO AND GOVERNS THE NOMINATION
AND ELECTION OF CANDIDATES FOR THE BOARD OF EDUCATION OF
WASHINGTON COUNTY.

(B)  (1) MEMBERS OF THE BOARD OF EDUCATION SHALL BE
ELECTED ON A NONPARTISAN BASIS.

(2) CANDIDATES FOR NOMINATION OR ELECTION TO THE
BOARD OF EDUCATION SHALL FILE CERTIFICATES OF CANDIDACY, BE
CERTIFIED TO THE BALLOT, APPEAR ON THE BALLOT, BE VOTED
UPON, AND BE NOMINATED AND ELECTED WITHOUT PARTY DESIGNATION
AND WITHOUT REGARD TO PARTY AFFILIATION.

(C)  AN INDIVIDUAL MAY NOT BE A CANDIDATE FOR
NOMINATION OR ELECTION TO THE BOARD OF   EDUCATION UNLESS THE
QUALIFICATIONS IN THE EDUCATION ARTICLE   AND THIS ARTICLE ARE
SATISFIED. BEFORE CERTIFYING THE NAME     OF A CANDIDATE TO
APPEAR ON THE BALLOT, THE BOARD OF   ELECTION SUPERVISORS
SHALL DETERMINE THAT THE CANDIDATE SATISFIES THE
REQUIREMENTS OF LAW. AN INDIVIDUAL  MAY NOT QUALIFY AS A
CANDIDATE BY FILING A PETITION.

(D)  (1) SUBJECT TO THE OTHER PROVISIONS OF THIS
SECTION, IN EACH YEAR THAT 1 OR MORE MEMBERS OF THE BOARD OF
EDUCATION ARE TO BE ELECTED, CANDIDATES THEREFOR SHALL BE
NOMINATED AT A PRIMARY ELECTION HELD IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE
PRIMARY ELECTION PROVIDED FOR IN SUBTITLE 5 OF THIS ARTICLE.

(2) IF, AT ANY TIME AFTER THE DEADLINE FOR THE
WITHDRAWAL OF CANDIDACIES AND BEFORE THE PRIMARY ELECTION,
THE NUMBER OF CANDIDATES HAVING FILED CERTIFICATES OF
CANDIDACY IN ANY CONTEST DOES NOT EXCEED TWICE THE NUMBER OF
OFFICES TO BE FILLED, A CERTIFICATE OF NOMINATION SHALL BE
ISSUED IMMEDIATELY TO EACH CANDIDATE. THE NAMES OF THE
CANDIDATES AND THE OFFICE SHALL BE OMITTED FROM THE PRIMARY
BALLOT.
