(b) (9) The accumulated contributions of a member that
are withdrawn by him or paid to his personal representative
[or his designated beneficiary] on the member's death, shall
be paid from the fund.
86.
(1) (a) Any member may retire upon written application
to the board of trustees setting forth at what time he
desires to be retired, provided that the member at the time
so specified for his retirement shall have attained the age
of 60 or shall have rendered 25 years of creditable service
as a teacher [and notwithstanding that, during the period of
notification, he may have separated from service].

(9) In the year of his retirement, credit of up to 10
years may be received by a member [towards eligibility] for
benefits provided under § 117 of this subtitle, if the
member files claim for it with the board of trustees and
pays into this pension system an amount equal to the
reserves required to fund the additional allowance, which
may be paid on an installment basis by contributing not less
than 2 percent of compensation per year with the appropriate
final adjustments being made in the year in which the member
retires, for previous service time:
(a) With the Department of Legislative
Reference;
(b) With the State Law Department;
(c) With the Speaker of the House or the
President of the Senate as a secretary;
(d) With the Commission to Revise the Annotated
Code or any successor agency;
(e) With the Division of Employment Service
while under federal control;
(f) With the Maryland Tuberculosis Association
as the operator of radiological equipment under the
supervision of the Maryland Health Department;
(g) With a municipal corporation in Maryland;
(h) With an out-of-state school as a teacher;
