CHAPTER 824

(Senate Bill 852)

AN ACT concerning

Compliance with Traffic Citations -
Powers of the Court on Noncompliance

FOR the purpose of altering the procedures under which the
District Court and the Motor Vehicle Administration may
cause a person's driving privileges to be suspended for
failure to comply with a notice to appear for trial on
a violation of the Maryland Vehicle Laws.

BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,

Article - Transportation

Section 26-204

Annotated Code of Maryland

(1977 Volume and 1981 Supplement)

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That section(s) of the Annotated Code of Maryland
read(s) as follows:

Article - Transportation

26-204.

(a)  A person shall comply with the notice to appear
contained in a traffic citation issued to [him] THE PERSON
under this subtitle.

(b)  For purposes of this section, the person may
comply with the notice to appear by:

(1)  Appearance in person;

(2)  Appearance by counsel; or

(3)  Payment of the fine, if provided for in the
citation.

(c)   If a person fails to comply with the notice to
appear; the District Court shall MAY:

(1) Except as provided in subsection [(f)]
(E) of this section, issue a warrant for [his] THE PERSON'S
arrest; or
