HARRY HUGHES, Governor

433

(2)  EVERY REASONABLE METHOD OF TREATMENT SHALL
BE USED TO PREVENT A RELAPSE.

(3)  IF RECOVERY OF THE CHRONIC. ALCOHOLIC IS
UNLIKELY, THE OUTPATIENT TREATMENT PROGRAM SHALL PROVIDE
SUPPORTIVE SERVICES AND RESIDENTIAL FACILITIES SO THAT THE
INDIVIDUAL MAY SURVIVE IN A DECENT MANNER.

REVISOR'S NOTE: This section is new language derived
without substantive change from former Article
2C, § 305(a)(1), (b), (c), (d), and the second
and third sentences of (a)(2).

In subsection (a) of this section, the phrase
"whether or not the individual has been admitted
to the program before" is added for clarity and
conformity to § 8-507(a) of this subtitle.

Subsection (b) of this section is revised to
clarify that the determination whether to admit
an individual is not limited to readmission.

Also in subsection (b) of this section, the
reference to the "administrative head" of a
program is substituted for "program director", to
avoid confusion with the Director of the
Administration and to standardize the references
to this type of position.

In subsection (c) of this section, the former

phrase "but not limited to" is deleted in light
of the use of the defined term "including".

The first sentence of former Article 2C, §
305(a), which referred to encouraging treatment,
is deleted as unnecessary in light of § 8-506 of
this subtitle.

Defined terms: "Chronic alcoholic" § 8-101
"Includes"/"including" § 1-101

8-509. ADMISSION OF INTOXICATED INDIVIDUALS AND CHRONIC
ALCOHOLICS TO PRIVATE AND PUBLIC HOSPITALS.

THE ADMINISTRATION SHALL PROMOTE THE ADMISSION AND
TREATMENT OF INTOXICATED INDIVIDUALS AND ALCOHOLICS IN
PRIVATE AND PUBLIC HOSPITALS WITHOUT DISCRIMINATION.

REVISOR'S NOTE: This section formerly appeared as the
first sentence of Article 2C, § 313.

The term "intoxicated individuals" is substituted
for the word "inebriates" to standardize the
references throughout this title.
