the bank such unauthorized signature or indorsement or such
alteration.

(5) If under this section a payor bank has a valid
defense against a claim of a customer upon or resulting from
payment of an item and waives or fails upon request to
assert the defense the bank may not assert against any
collecting bank or other prior party presenting or
transferring the item a claim based upon the unauthorized
signature or alteration giving rise to the customer's claim.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act
shall take effect July 1, 1982.

AN ACT concerning

Merit System - Fire Fighters

FOR the purpose of providing that, for purposes of extra
compensation known as shift differential pay, State
employed fire fighters are designated employees.

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That section(s) of the Annotated Code of Maryland
read(s) as follows:

Article 64A - Merit System

27.

(d) (1) Extra compensation, to be known as shift
differential pay, shall be granted to designated employees.
Such employees, to be eligible, must work on a full-time
shift, starting between 2:00 p.m. and 1:00 a.m. The
Secretary shall establish rules and regulations for the
payment of such shift differential, to provide fairness and
equity among all employees in consideration of the hours
