Preamble

The General Assembly acknowledges that there is an ever
increasing need for hospice care programs to become a major
component of the comprehensive health care program in
Maryland. Therefore, the General Assembly declares that
there shall be a Hospice Care Program in the State of
Maryland.

The term hospice describes a humane approach to care
for the terminally ill patient, distinguishing it from
traditional health care in the following four ways:
