6-118. THOMAS J. S. WAXTER CHILDREN'S CENTER.

(A)  "CENTER" DEFINED.

IN THIS SECTION, "CENTER" MEANS THE THOMAS J. S. WAXTER
CHILDREN'S CENTER.

(B)  TEMPORARY CUSTODY.

SUBJECT TO RULES AND REGULATIONS THAT THE
ADMINISTRATION ADOPTS, THE CENTER SHALL ACCEPT FROM A POLICE
OFFICER OR INTAKE OFFICER THE TEMPORARY CUSTODY OF ANY CHILD
WHO IS HELD ON A CHARGE THAT IS OR COULD BE ADJUDICATED AS A
DELINQUENT ACT.

(C)  RESIDENTIAL PROGRAM.

THE CENTER SHALL PROVIDE A RESIDENTIAL PROGRAM OF CARE
AND STUDY FOR ANY CHILD IN THE CENTER'S CUSTODY.

(D)  DURATION OF CUSTODY.

(1)  EXCEPT AS PROVIDED IN PARAGRAPH (2) OF THIS
SUBSECTION, THE CENTER MAY NOT DETAIN OR HOLD A CHILD IN
CUSTODY ON ANY 1 CHARGE OR SET OF CHARGES FOR MORE THAN 24
HOURS, EXCLUSIVE OF ANY SATURDAY, SUNDAY, OR HOLIDAY.

(2)  IF ORDERED TO DO SO BY A COURT OF COMPETENT
JURISDICTION, THE CENTER SHALL CONTINUE TO DETAIN AND HOLD
THE CHILD IN CUSTODY FOR A CONTINUED RESIDENTIAL PROGRAM OF
CARE AND STUDY. HOWEVER, THE CENTER MAY NOT DETAIN OR HOLD
A CHILD IN CUSTODY ON ANY 1 CHARGE OR SET OF CHARGES FOR
MORE THAN 30 DAYS, IN ADDITION TO THE PERIOD PERMITTED UNDER
PARAGRAPH (1) OF THIS SUBSECTION.

REVISOR'S NOTE: Subsection (a) of this section is new
language added to avoid repetition of the full
title "Thomas J. S. Waxter Children's Center".

Subsections (b), (c), and (d) of this section
formerly appeared as Article 52A, § 12(b).
