(4) The Executive Director shall refer an
individual who applies for extended benefits to suitable
work.
SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That if prior to
March 1, 1983, the Federal-State Extended Unemployment
Compensation Act of 1970 (Public Law 91-373 as amended by
Public Law 97-35) is amended to alter, to a date after
September 26, 1982, the date by which the states are
required to implement the new state, "on" and "off"
indicators for extended benefits specified in Section 2403
of Public. Law 97-35, then this Act's amendments altering the
percentages for the State "on" and "off" indicators in
Section 21(a)(2) of Maryland's Unemployment Insurance Law
may not take effect on September 26, 1982, but shall take
effect on the later date specified by the amendments to the
Federal-State Extended Unemployment Compensation Act.
SECTION 3. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That if, with an
effective date prior to March 1, 1983, the Federal-State
Extended Unemployment Compensation Act of 1970 (Public Law
91-373 as amended by Public Law 97-35) is amended to reduce
the specified percentages for state "on" and "off"
indicators for extended benefits, then the percentages for
the State "on" and "off" indicators for extended benefits
specified in Section 21(a)(2) of Maryland's Unemployment
Insurance Law shall automatically decrease to the
percentages specified by the amendments to the Federal-State
Extended Compensation Act on the effective date of those
amendments.
SECTION 2 4. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That the
provisions of this Act be construed in a manner consistent
with the provisions of the Federal-State Extended
Unemployment Compensation Act of 1970, as amended, in order
to assure that Maryland's Unemployment Insurance Law may be
certified by the U.S. Secretary of Labor pursuant to Section
3304 of the Internal Revenue Code of 1954.
SECTION 3 5. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act
shall take effect September 26, 1982.
