shall take effect July 1, 1982.

AN ACT concerning

Division of Parole and Probation - Supervision of Females

FOR the purpose of repealing the requirement that females
convicted of certain crimes be supervised by female
probation officers.

BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,

Article 27 - Crimes and Punishments

Section 17

Annotated Code of Maryland

(1976 Replacement Volume and 1981 Supplement)

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That section(s) of the Annotated Code of Maryland
read(s) as follows:

Article 27 - Crimes and Punishments

17.

Any person convicted of violating any of the provisions
of § 15 shall be subject to a fine of not more than $500.00
or to confinement in or commitment to any penal or
reformatory institution in this State for not more than one
year, or to both such fine and imprisonment in the
discretion of the court; provided, that the sentence or any
part thereof may be suspended and provided that the
defendant may be placed on parole or probation[; provided
further, that no girl or woman who shall be convicted under
this subtitle shall be placed on parole or probation in the
care or charge of any person, except a woman probation
officer designated by law or by the court].
