(c) The Department shall bring any deficiencies to the
attention of the management of the private facility.

(D) COMPLAINT INVESTIGATIONS OF PRIVATE INPATIENT
FACILITIES AND PSYCHIATRIC UNITS OF PRIVATE ACUTE GENERAL
HOSPITALS SHALL BE PERFORMED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE
PROVISIONS OF SECTION 19-309 OF THIS ARTICLE.

(B) "ACCREDITED HOSPITAL" MEANS A HOSPITAL ACCREDITED
BY THE JOINT COMMISSION ON ACCREDITATION OF HOSPITALS.

(H) "NONACCREDITED HOSPITAL" MEANS A HOSPITAL NOT
ACCREDITED BY THE JOINT COMMISSION ON ACCREDITATION OF
HOSPITALS.

(a)[(l)] The Secretary shall adopt reasonable rules
and regulations that set standards of services for [the]
RELATED INSTITUTIONS AND NONACCREDITED HOSPITALS IN THE
FOLLOWING AREAS:

(1)  THE care [and medical supervision of
residents in related institutions] OF PATIENTS;

(2)  THE MEDICAL SUPERVISION OF PATIENTS;

(3)  THE PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT;

(4)  DISEASE CONTROL;

(5)   SANITATION;

(6)  SAFETY; AND

(7)  DIETARY MATTERS.

[(2) The Secretary may adopt rules and
regulations that set standards for safety and sanitation in
the physical plant and in the diagnostic, therapeutic, and
laboratory facilities and equipment of hospitals and related
institutions.]

(b) (1) To assure compliance with the standards
adopted under this subtitle, the Secretary shall have an
inspection made:

(i) Of each [hospital or] related
institution AND EACH NONACCREDITED HOSPITAL for which a
license is sought; and
