3-8.
(A) The County Commissioners of Carroll County shall
annually levy and collect from the assessable property in
Carroll County, as other county taxes are levied and
collected, the sum of up to 8 cents per $100.00 of the value
of such property, which sum of money the County
Commissioners shall distribute and pay to the volunteer fire
companies, except as noted in Section 3-8(B), in the county
for the support, maintenance, equipment (including
ambulances) and operation of the volunteer fire companies;
and said sum of money shall be proportioned and distributed
among the volunteer fire companies pursuant to a plan
adopted by the executive committee of the Carroll County
Volunteer Firemen's Association and approved by the County
Commissioners.
(B) The County Commissioners may provide service award
payments from such appropriations as provided for in Section
3-8(A) to eligible volunteer firemen as certified by the
Carroll County Volunteer Firemen's Association. Such
payments may be made to those individuals who have met the
adopted plan requirements as approved by the County
Commissioners and have reached the age of [65] 62 on the
prescribed date. Such payments shall not exceed $100 per
month and shall be for life. The service award payments may
be made monthly by the County directly to eligible
recipients.
SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act
shall take effect July 1, 1982.
