AN ACT concerning

National Guard Mutual Assistance Compact

FOR the purpose of repealing the National Guard Mutual
Assistance Compact and the authority of the Governor to
enter into such a compact on behalf of the State of
Maryland.

Section 89 through 97 and the subtitle "National Guard

Mutual Assistance Compact"

Preamble

WHEREAS, The General Assembly enacted the National
Guard Mutual Assistance Compact in 1968 authorizing the
Governor to enter into agreements with other states for
mutual aid among the states in utilizing the National Guard
to cope with emergencies; and

WHEREAS, During the 12 years subsequent to 1968, no
Governor of Maryland has chosen to implement the National
Guard Mutual Assistance Compact; and

WHEREAS, Only six states have implemented the compact
since it was first proposed in 1967; and

WHEREAS, The continued existence of the enabling
legislation has not been supported and testimony was
received before the Maryland Commission on Intergovernmental
Cooperation that the compact would not be in the "best
interests" of this State; now, therefore,

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That section(s) of the Annotated Code of Maryland
be repealed, amended, or enacted to read as follows:
