732
LAWS OF MARYLAND
Ch.8
In subsection (c)(l)(ii) of this section, new
language is added to allow an applicant to meet
the educational requirements for a license if the
applicant has a master's degree or its equivalent
in a subject other than speech pathology and, in
the judgment of the Board, has taken a sufficient
number of speech pathology courses. This
interpretation conforms to current Board
practice. This addition is called to the
attention of the General Assembly.
In subsection (c)(2) of this section, the
reference to transcripts as written evidence of
meeting the Board's requirements is deleted, in
accordance with the current practice of the
Board, to give the Board greater discretion in
judging evidence of meeting the requirements.
Also in subsection (c)(2) of this section, the
present reference to "one or more accredited
colleges or universities" is deleted as
inaccurate. The reference does not include every
place where an applicant can receive the
education and clinical experience and incorrectly
states that an applicant can fulfill the
employment requirements at a college or
university, when, in fact, in practice, the
requirements must be fulfilled outside of a
college program.
Subsection (d) of this section is rephrased in
standard language to state expressly that if a
license applicant is required to take an
examination given by the Board, then the
applicant must pass the examination before the
applicant may be licensed. As to the power of
the Board to give examinations, see § 19-304 of
this subtitle.
The part of present Art. 43, § 793(a)(2) that
relates to the educational requirements for a
license to practice audiology now appears in
Title 2 of this article. See the General
Revisor's Note to this title.
19-303. APPLICATIONS FOR LICENSES.
TO APPLY FOR A LICENSE, AN APPLICANT SHALL:
(1) SUBMIT AN APPLICATION TO THE BOARD ON THE
FORM THAT THE BOARD REQUIRES; AND
(2) PAY TO THE BOARD THE APPLICATION FEE SET BY
THE BOARD.
