LAWS OF MARYLAND

Ch.8

"LICENSE" MEANS, UNLESS THE CONTEXT REQUIRES OTHERWISE,
A LICENSE ISSUED BY THE BOARD TO PRACTICE PODIATRY.

REVISOR'S NOTE: This subsection is new language added
to avoid needless repetition of phrases such as
"license to practice podiatry".

(D)  LICENSED PODIATRIST.

"LICENSED PODIATRIST" MEANS, UNLESS THE CONTEXT
REQUIRES OTHERWISE, A PODIATRIST WHO IS LICENSED BY THE
BOARD TO PRACTICE PODIATRY.

REVISOR'S NOTE: This subsection is new language added
to avoid needless repetition of phrases such as
"individual licensed to practice podiatry".

On occasion, the term "licensee" is used in this
title as a synonym for "licensed podiatrist".
Since "license" is defined in subsection (c) of
this section, "licensee" need not be defined
separately.

(E)  PODIATRIST.

"PODIATRIST" MEANS AN INDIVIDUAL WHO PRACTICES
PODIATRY.

REVISOR'S NOTE: This subsection is new language added
to provide an express definition of "podiatrist";
it is stated in the standard form used to define
the various health practitioners regulated under
this article.

(F)  PRACTICE PODIATRY.

(1)  "PRACTICE PODIATRY" MEANS TO DIAGNOSE OR
SURGICALLY, MEDICALLY, OR MECHANICALLY TREAT ANY AILMENT OF
THE HUMAN FOOT.

(2)  "PRACTICE PODIATRY" DOES NOT INCLUDE:
(I) ARTHRODESIS OF TWO OR MORE TARSAL

BONES;

(II) COMPLETE TARSAL OSTEOTOMY; OR

(III) ADMINISTRATION OF AN ANESTHETIC,
OTHER THAN A LOCAL ANESTHETIC.

REVISOR'S NOTE: This subsection is new language derived
without substantive change from Art. 43, §
492(d).

The definition is stated in the infinitive form
to permit minor verb variations of the defined
phrase, without taking these variations out of
the scope of the definition.
