SECTION, ANY REMUNERATION FOR SICK LEAVE SHALL BE PAID AND
TREATED AS SICK PAY.

(B) PAYMENTS FOR ABSENCE SOLELY BECAUSE OF A DEATH IN
THE EMPLOYEE'S FAMILY MAY NOT BE PAID OR TREATED AS SICK

ACCIDENT OF THE EMPLOYEE SHALL BE PAID AND TREATED AS SICK
PAY AND NOT AS CONTINUATION OF SALARY.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act
shall take effect July 1, 1981.

May 19, 1981
The Honorable Benjamin L. Cardin
Speaker of the House of Delegates
State House
Annapolis, Maryland 21404

Dear Mr. Speaker:

In accordance with Article II, Section 17 of the
Maryland Constitution, today I have vetoed House Bill 1875.

This bill provides that payments on account of sick
leave be treated as sick pay when paid to certain employees
of public schools, institutions of higher education and
libraries.

Senate Bill 1070, which was enacted by the General
Assembly and signed by me on May 19, 1981, accomplishes the
same purpose.

Therefore it is unnecessary for me to sign House Bill
1875.

Sincerely,
Harry Hughes
Governor

House Bill No. 1878
