VETOES

FOR the purpose of increasing the salary of the Sheriff of
Anne Arundel County; and providing that this increase
does not affect the incumbent.

BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That section(s) of the Annotated Code of Maryland
be repealed, amended, or enacted to read as follows:

Article - Courts and Judicial Proceedings

(c) (1) The Sheriff of Anne Arundel County shall
receive a salary of [$20,000] $29,500.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act
may not be construed to extend or apply to the salary of the
Sheriff of Anne Arundel County in office on the effective
date of this Act, but the provisions of this Act concerning
the salary of the Sheriff of Anne Arundel County shall take
effect at the beginning of the next following term of
office.

SECTION 3. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act
shall take effect July 1, 1981.

Dear Mr. Speaker:

In accordance with Article II, Section 17 of the
Maryland Constitution, I have today vetoed House Bill 1624.

This bill raises the annual salary of the sheriff of
Anne Arundel County.

Senate Bill 595, which was enacted by the General
Assembly and signed by me on April 14, 1981, accomplishes
the same purpose.
